Here at Hillsborough Elim we want to make it as easy as possible for you to bridge that massive gap between this site and our front door. We wish to alleviate any concerns that you may have, give you a feel for what we are like and answer any questions that you may have. As with anything, the first time is always the hardest. There are so many questions about what to expect, what to wear and
so on, and so we want to help you by answering some of these questions:

Will I Be Welcome ?

We love to see new people coming through our doors, our desire is that you will feel at home and that you can relax and enjoy our family atmosphere. So, the answer to this question is an emphatic YES!

What Should I Wear ?

It is the age old problem that faces us. No matter where we go we want to make sure that we won’t stick out like a sore thumb by being either too dressy or too casual.
When you come you will find people dressed in whatever they are comfortable in; you will find some in dressy clothes such as suits, shirts and ties and others in more casual wear such as jeans and jumpers. We believe that God isn’t that interested in what you are wearing but with what is going on in your heart. Therefore, whatever it is that you normally wear out – that’ll be fine. Just come as you are and enjoy our services.

What Will Happen ?

The first thing that will happen as you come through the doors is that there to greet you will be a member of the welcoming team who will give a big smile and greet you by shaking your hand. The welcome team will be able to assist you in any queries you may have (ie where the toilets are, the crèche times and Sunday School, etc).

Praise & Worship –
Our music is as lively and energetic as it is sincere and heartfelt. You will find that we are free to express our love and devotion to our God in many different ways, some through raising their hands, some by clapping and others by waving a banner. The type of expression though is not our main focus, the key issue is that we are genuine in our worship, and that in accordance with Jesus’ words we “Worship in Spirit and in Truth”.

Communion – Most Sunday mornings we enjoy coming together to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross by celebrating communion. Here we take a piece of bread (which symbolises Jesus broken body) and a cup of red fruit juice (which reminds us of His blood). We do this because without that act on the cross we would have no hope of forgiveness or of heaven, so it is important to us that we remember that Jesus laid down his life for the entire world. If you are a Christian we welcome you to participate in this celebration as the bread and cup come to where you are seated. If not don’t be embarrassed, simply pass them on and continue to enjoy the rest of the service.

Sunday School – Before the message, the children will be given the opportunity to leave so that they can attend Sunday School which is a programme that is relevant, interesting and appropriate to their age grouping.

Message – We believe that the preaching and teaching of God’s Word is paramount to our gatherings together. Our message will always be Bible based, relevant and applicable to life’s situations.
