Who are we?
Values

God’s Word: The Bible is the ultimate authority on all matters for life and godliness.  We will not compromise on its truth and it will remain central to everything we do.  We will communicate its truth in a manner which is both creative and relevant.

Worship
: We make it our goal to glorify God in our lives.  This encompasses every aspect of our lives as we offer ourselves as living sacrifices.  This includes times when we come together for authentic, passionate and heartfelt praise.

Prayer
: Communication with the living God is not only possible but vital. We will devote ourselves to calling on God that “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven!” and opening our ears to hear what God is saying to us.

Community
: We will go beyond the “hi – bye” culture and make deep connections of fellowship as we love one-another and become a community that is united and one.

Ministry
: Every believer is called into the ministry.  Each of us has a part to play in the Body of Christ and we will call on every member to take their place and serve God by serving others.

Mission
: Everyone is called to be a missionary.  Whether at home, to our families and friends, workplaces and neighbourhoods, villages, towns, cities, this nation or to the outer reaches of the earth.  We are each commanded to spread the message of God’s love and grace.

Growth
: For our church, ministries and individuals.  We believe that growth is a sign of a healthy church and so we expect to grow in every aspect.  We are also called to be followers of Jesus, growing more into His likeness (discipleship).

Building Biggervision2

  1. We see a church that continues to grow and expand in number.
  2. We see a church whose people are ever growing in discipleship, knowledge of the Word, and devotion to their God.  People, who will stand for truth, know their God, live in accordance with His ways and, empowered by the Spirit, reach out with the ministry of Jesus to others.
  3. We see a church that is growing in influence in our communities, in the nation and in the world.

Working Together

We see a church that is so united with one vision, one purpose and one heart that God commands His blessing (Psalm 133)
We see a church where all are welcomed, loved and accepted.  A place where people are connected to fellowship and true Godly friendship.
We see a church where everyone plays their part and uses their gifts, time, talents and resources for the glory of God.
We see a church that is pressing forward with unstoppable force, hand in hand, working together, never idle or lacking fervour but passionately living for and serving God and His people.

Reaching Further

  1. We see a church where every believer is an effective witness and disciple-maker.
  2. We see a church that reaches out beyond the four walls to impact the communities around us with the life changing message of Jesus.
  3. We see a church that breaks beyond all cultural barriers to see people of every group, colour and religious background among our number.
  4. We see a church that makes a difference in the world by generously sending out resources, people and finances to other parts of the world for their aid and the advancement of the Gospel.

Profile_Photos_005_copyBorn in Weston-Super-Mare (England), Alistair spent most of his life growing up in Northern Ireland. He made a decision to follow Jesus as a child but in his mid to late teens a passion for God began to stir within his heart and he felt challenged to go to Bible College to train to become a Pastor. At the age of 19 he started a three year course at Belfast Bible College and upon graduation was appointed Youth Pastor in South Belfast Elim Church. Following 4 years of service there, Alistair was appointed to Hillsborough Elim Church (June 2004) as Associate Pastor to work alongside his father,. However, upon Pastor Jimmy Ritchie's change of role from lead Pastor Alistair was appointed the new lead Pastor of Hillsborough Elim Church where he he continues to serve with his wife Alison and daughters Chara and Emily. Alistair’s heart is to see Christians built up in God, fully devoted to Him and reaching out to lost people who need His love.

Profile_Photos_001_copyPastor Jimmy Ritchie was born and brought up in East Belfast, Northern Ireland. It was through attending the Ulster Temple Campaigners(An Evangelical Uniformed Youth Organisation) that he first came in contact with an Elim Church and received Jesus Christ as his Lord, and Saviour. From his earliest days as a Christian Jimmy had a burning desire to serve the Lord and in September 1970 he commenced his training for Pastoral Ministry at the Elim Churches Theological College in Capel, Surrey in England. Jimmy has now over 30 years experience in full time ministry, having pastored Elim Churches in Weston-Super-Mare, Bradford, Pontypridd, Markethill and Carryduff. In the early 90s he became Elim’s Evangelistic Director (Ireland) and Associate Pastor of the Ulster Temple until his move to Hillsborough in October 2000. He then served faithfully as the lead Pastor from October 2000 until January 2012 when he stepped down from his role as lead Pastor and now serves as part of the church leadrship team. Jimmy and his wife Vanessa have six grown up children and thirteen grandchildren.

38848_451906625347_5439905_nPastor Bill Foye was born and brought up in North West Belfast and the top of the Shankill road. He was born the year both his parents became Christians so he had the privilege of a Godly upbringing. He became a Christian at the early age of 7 and as far back as he can remember he felt the call of God to give his live serving in the local church. After serving in the local church during his teenage years he felt the call to bible college so in 2006 he went to Belfast Bible College. After college he got married to Hilary and they moved to Dollingstown near Moira and decided to join Hillsborough Elim. God then opened the door to minister as part of the team as assistant Pastor after serving for 2 years as an intern. Bill heads up the youth work in the church and plays an active roll in media, music as well as event organising. His passion is to see Christians live in the freedom that Christ has given them through his life, death and resurrection, and for non-Christians to see the real Jesus in the lives of Christians.

Elim Fundamentals
PDF Print E-mail

As part of the Elim Churches in Ireland we fully and wholeheartedly adhere to and promote its Fundamental beliefs. They are as follows:

THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible, as originally given, to be without error, the fully inspired and infallible Word of God and the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

THE TRINITY
We believe that the Godhead exists co-equally and co-eternally in three persons Father, Son and Holy Spirit and that these three are one God, sovereign in creation, providence and redemption.

THE SAVIOUR
We believe in the true and proper deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His real and complete humanity, in His sinless life, in His authoritative teaching, in His substitutionary and atoning sacrifice through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His heavenly intercession and in His second advent to receive His Church.

THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father and the Son and the necessity of His work in conviction of sin, repentance, regeneration and sanctification, and that the believer is also promised an enduement of power as the gift of Christ through the baptism in the Holy Spirit with signs following. Through this enduement the believer is empowered for fuller participation in the ministry of the Church, its worship, evangelism and service.

MANKIND
We believe in the universal sinfulness of all men since the Fall, rendering man subject to God's wrath and condemnation.

SALVATION
We believe in the necessity for salvation of the repentance towards God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by which the sinner is pardoned and accepted as righteous in God's sight. This justification is imputed by the grace of God because of the atoning work of Christ, is received by faith alone and is evidenced by the Fruit of the Spirit and a holy life.

THE CHURCH
We believe in the spiritual unity and the priesthood of all believers in Christ and these comprise the universal Church, the Body of Christ.

THE MINISTRY
We believe in the ministries that Christ has set in His Church, namely, apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, and in the present operation of the manifold Gifts of the Holy Spirit according to the New Testament.

THE ORDINANCES
We believe in the baptism of believers by immersion in water in obedience to the command of Christ and in the commemoration of Christ's death by the observance of the Lord's Supper until His return.

THE COMMISSION
We believe that the gospel embraces the needs of the whole man and that the Church is therefore commissioned to preach the gospel to the world and to fulfil a ministry of healing and deliverance to the spiritual and physical needs of mankind.

THE COMING KING
We believe in the personal, physical and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to reign in power and glory.

THE FUTURE STATE
We believe in the resurrection of the dead and in the final judgement of the world, the eternal conscious bliss of the righteous and the eternal conscious punishment of the wicked.

Our Purpose
PDF Print E-mail

Hillsborough Elim Church exists for more than just holding services and occupying a site of land on the Moira Road. We believe that we are not an aimless church wandering through our existence with no sense of who we are or what we are meant to be doing but are a focused community of believers who know exactly why we are here and what we must achieve.

Two great scriptures point us in the direction that we must take:
1. The Great Commission
2. The Great Commandment

Which are as follows:
1. The Great Commission - “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28: 19-20, NIV)

2. The Great Commandment - “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”’
(Matthew 23: 37-39, NIV)

Within these two scriptures we can see that the purposes we must fulfil as God’s Church are as follows:

Reaching - We are told to "Go and preach the Gospel" to the whole world. Therefore we exist to reach out, beyond the four walls of our church building, to those in our surrounding communities, in our nation and to the whole world.

Growing - We are also to grow as disciples of Jesus, to remain the same but to grow up in the faith and become mature believers in God.

Devoting - We are to love God with absolutely everything we have and with all of our being. We are to be totally devoted to Him and worship Him above all others.

Connecting - No man is an island; and as such we believe that we should not be a community of believers who simply come in and out of church having no interaction with each other but that as a community we should relate to one another and promote fellowship and friendship in our church.

Equipping - We believe that we should enable each person to play their part and fulfil their purpose in God. Therefore, through example, teaching, training and releasing we desire to "equip the saints for the work of God."

Hillsborough Elim exists for these Five Purposes, and as Church we seek to organise and run our programme to fulfil these.
